In the world of computers the word ’version’ crops up with great regularity. The latest version, the final version, the professional version,versions 3.1, ‘95, ’98, 2000 and XP and so it goes on. The race is always on to get the latest version in the belief that it will work the best and deliver the results. So you upgrade and you’re ok. One of the slogans of WorkNet is ’Taking faith to work’. The challenge for us all is not only to take faith to work but to take an authentic version of our faith. In this respect the race is on not to get the latest version of our faith, but the original. The original version includes supernatural divine intervention (such as a God who delivers a miraculous catch of fish in the fishing industry). The original version includes integrity and witness, so Matthew follows Christ and tells people why. The original version includes quietly getting on with the job as well as stirring up trouble when necessary; so Daniel insisted on following his faith even if it lead him into conflict. So don’t rule out praying for a colleague by their desk, or standing up for the truth. Don’t rule out miraculous help or faith stretching ventures. Our computers work best with full versions, not corrupted software or incompatible programmes. Our faith works best when we take the original version with us wherever we go.
