Son of Man 46 Son of Man: What to See

How you ever stood in a dimly lit area and your coworker switches on a flashlight as you are trying to solve a problem?

You may hear yourself saying “What am I looking at?” It’s a common scenario in work and life.

Your friend with the flashlight really wants you to see – especially if the object is significant, important or perhaps even astonishingly beautiful.

So what is it that is so important that the Son of Man has traveled so long, so far, so life shaping, so emptying and exhausting in order for you to see?

I’m going to suggest to you that for all the 46 editions of this series so far on the Son of Man the answer is the same.

Don’t take my suggestions, listen to the conversation between Jesus and the newly sighted man who was born blind.

Jesus found him and said, “Do you believe in . . . ? Pause it there. What is your answer?

I can suggest to you some of the items which currently exist in many people’s minds to complete that question. Here’s a few: 
in science 
in success
in knowledge
in the military
in the Bible
in our leaders
in our way of doing church
in our mission statements
in our statements of faith 
in fate
in yourself

The list could fill your screen so completely that you would hurt your hand as you scroll down.

But Jesus’ question is do you believe in . . . THE SON OF MAN?

“Who is he sir, tell me so that I might believe?”

“You have now seen him, in fact he is the one speaking to you”.

“Lord I believe” and he worshipped him.

Can you see it? Can you really see it?

What is the difference between saying “there is the light” and “I Am the Light?”

The answer is of course “I AM”.

Now you can examine your work in that Light. Are you trying hard to follow biblical ethics? They are not the Light. Are you trying to be true to your church tradition? That is not the Light. Are you trying to obey Christian laws? They are not the Light. Read this carefully, even your bible is not the Light.

If you are believing in any of these you remain blinded.

Christianity is separated from every other way because Jesus said “I AM”.

So when you work you work for a person – when you see, you see a person – when you trust, you trust in a person. You do not trust in a system, a priest, a procedure or a law. Jesus said ” I AM” the Light of the world.

If you want to live with the Light this week it will be with a person and nothing and no one else.

Perhaps you have become so familiar with Christian thinking that it has slipped your mind that we are not people of a book, a set of values, or a traditional way. We are people who follow a person.

When you see that you are truly walking in the Light.
