“I just can’t cope with my boss”…..“What are they going to do to
us next?”…..” “It’s totally unreasonable!”
“You just can’t get the staff”…..“If you want the job doing
properly …”
“They set me up”…. “What more can I do?”….” They’ve set me up!”
Work doesn’t have to be unpleasant, but when difficulties do
arise you can be sure that they come mainly from three
groups of people: those above you – bosses, managers,
directors, shareholders, the government; those below you –
staff, reports, employees; or those beside you – colleagues,
customers or clients.
There are days when it doesn’t rain, but it pours. For some
reason your line-manager drops demands on you from a
great height expecting you to cope with continuous
pressure.
Other days seem to throw up an endless tide of problems,
queries and mistakes as your staff threaten to overwhelm
you in a flood of issues which you thought had been
delegated.
If that was not enough, a criticism from a colleague or a
customer can deal you a body-blow leaving you reeling like a
winded boxer.
At the end of his famous Sermon on the Mount, Jesus
Christ painted a word-picture of builders building houses on
two different foundations. Each house faced three problems.
Rain coming down from above, floods coming up from
beneath and winds blowing in from the side. Sound familiar?
As you build your career I would suggest that to stand
against stormy managers, floods of staff problems and body
blows from your peers, you will need to build your career
on the rock of Jesus Christ. If you want to know how to do

time.
Matthew 7 : 24-27
24″Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
